Why the 2026 comparison changed
Older Superfly and Vapor generations often shared most of their construction and differed mainly around the collar. That shortcut no longer works. Nike says the 2026 models have different uppers, plates and purposes, making this a functional choice instead of a styling choice.
Choose Superfly 11 ifâŠ
Choose Superfly if your decisive actions are long accelerations, channel runs and top-speed sprints. The Elite modelâs Air Zoom unit and ZoomX foam are intended to create a more propulsive underfoot sensation, while Flyweave Ultra focuses on containment at speed.
Choose Vapor 17 ifâŠ
Choose Vapor if you value low mass, sharp direction changes and a close-to-barefoot upper. The Atomknit upper and FlyLite plate reduce material and target responsiveness in crowded areas. Nike describes it as the lightest Mercurial it has made.
Do professionals wear both?
Yes. Nike associates Kylian MbappĂ© and Cristiano Ronaldo with Superfly, while VinĂcius JĂșnior and Lauren James are associated with Vapor. That does not mean you must copy a player: professionals receive personalised boots, and your foot shape may differ.
Fit and surface check

The headline comparison applies most directly to Elite. Nike says Superfly 11 Pro uses an earlier Air Zoom strobel and Flyweave upper, while Academy uses a knit cuff, NikeSkin and FlyLite plate. Vapor 17 Pro uses a two-layer Flyknit upper, and Academy uses NikeSkin with its own mesh build. Do not assume the Elite verdict transfers unchanged to a lower tier.
